Hello, and welcome to FX in Action. I’m Donte Ormsby, owner of FX Studios, a web design and media development company. A lot of people think that web design is the key to achieving their business goals: like increased sales and attracting more leads. And it is very true that websites can and often do achieve these goals, BUT, the more important question is HOW can a website help your business achieve these goals.
I liken it to a person who wants to start a business, and business, and while they’re getting the necessities together, like the business license, the bank account, etc. they suddenly get a great idea that having a company car would help increase business. After all, company cars look professional, and lets face it, it would feel really good driving around in a company car. And sometimes a company car is a good thing, but the question again is how?
Will the car have signage on it to advertise the business? That could help. Or will the car be driven in areas where our target markets tend to spend time? That could help too. But to simply purchase the car to have and not give any thought on how it can be used, well, that doesn’t make much sense does it?
Neither does spending money to develop a website, without giving any thought on how the site will help increase business. My company, FX Studios, is unique because we offer our clients solutions and tools that will help their website scream to a visitor, “Hey, this company is worth checking out”.How do we do it? By following a very simple rule that I learned from Stan Hustad, professional business coach, if your message is important for people to know, then it must be heard, not read.
When websites first came out they were really great tools to find out information about an organization or company without having to leave your home or office to visit them, or send away for information to learn about them. Reading a lot of text was just fine because, hey, that’s how we’re used to learning.
But today, in an age of DVD’s, cell phones, iPods, CD-ROMs, and countless other media devices, people are used to getting their information quicker and on demand just by clicking a button. Sure it sounds lazy, but it’s the truth. We live in fast paced societies were your clients and mine want information quick and easy and they don’t us to waste their time to get to the point.
That’s why I develop Flash presentations and short video clips to place on my clients’ websites, so visitors can learn, within moments what the company is all about, and more importantly, because so many other websites don’t follow this new media practice, see how advanced this company must be if they’re using such “high-tech” means to convey their message.
When it comes down to it, if your competition is using text, and you’re using video, audio, and podcasts to convey your message or demonstrate your products and services, who is a potential client going to be more impressed with?
A very true statistic is that you are 70% more likely to make a sale through or because of your website if you A) SHOW your visitor what it is you do, and B) illustrate how you’re one of the best at it.
